"This book is like Muir Gray himself: approachable, accessible, funny and absolutely comprehensive. Over one of the most distinguished careers in medicine he has done so much to improve the health of the nation, and this book will boost the mental and physical health of everyone who reads it, including (perhaps especially!) those who are living with chronic medical conditions.

Muir has had a huge impact on my medical career, my broadcasting, and most importantly my own physical and mental health. I’ve been taking his walking cure for years, and I’m delighted to see it now available for everyone in this exceptional book".

Dr Chris van Tulleken, BBC Broadcaster and NHS doctor

"If there was ever a book that could make a credible claim to being a ‘miracle cure’, then this is it! If all you do towards self-improvement is follow the advice within it, then pretty much everything in your life will improve. It is essential reading for people of all ages".

Dr Xand van Tulleken, BBC Broadcaster, Public Health Academic

Walking is simple, free, and medically by far the best prescription for the 21st century. It is the way mankind has kept fit for purpose ever since evolutionary times.

The reason why we don’t do it enough is because it has become too easy not to do it, and we are too often required to sit when it is not necessary. Although walking in the countryside is great, it can take significant periods of time.

Walking in the course of one’s daily life does not take much time, and the scenery of the urban street can also be interesting: people are often more entertaining than sheep!
