Rejuvenation
What happens to us as we live longer is that a fitness gap opens up between our best possible rate of decline and the actual rate of decline and this usually starts in the early twenties when we get our first sitting job.
Genetically we have not evolved to sit as much as we do and of course, some of it is within our power to change but modern life is dominated by sitting at work, commuting to work and even worse, not commuting because of home working. So the main factor that affects our rate of decline is not only ageing but ageing plus loss of fitness.
The good news is that at any age fitness can be regained and when fitness is regained the two aspects of fitness – maximum level of ability and resilience are also improved and by improvement we mean they reach a level at which your body was operating five, ten or even more years before you have succeeded in what the experts call, Dropping a Decade.
Brisk walking is therefore is like the elixir of life, a means of rejuvenation.
Dr Gray’s Walking Cure will introduce you to Walking Plus namely a daily programme of not only 30 minutes brisk walking but your daily dozen of twelve minutes to increase those aspects of fitness that walking does not increase namely
-
Suppleness
-
Skill and coordination, to reduce your risk of falling, and the Let’s Dance programme is great for this too
-
Strength, particularly of your core muscles of your back and spine
